Ohio's Pride - Ode to a Drum Major

E-mail Print PDF

ODE to a DRUM MAJOR
10/13/83

(sung to "Whistle while you Work")

Is your whistle going to work?
Will you feel like a big jerk?
We will not know 'til it's time to go,
If your whistle's going to work.

We really trust in you,
But what are we to do?
' Cause our greatest fear, Is not to hear
That whistle Loud and CLEAR...

Let's make this one point strong,
Your whistle can't be wrong;
So please don't fail, or we'll look like hail,
and chield must start the song...

E-mail Print PDF

The un- OFFICIAL Blue & Gold...

We cheer the Akron Marching Band
We cheer while we're dripping with sweat;

When we are out, the people shout
You must be masochists !!!

Right ! , Right !

We cheer our finely balanced sound
We cheer as we blow our brains out,

Keep those horns up,
swing and snap

In the Akron Marching Band

Chorus -

How can Akron, Go on living
Wi-it out, this band swinging?

No one cares about the score
But when we play - They always cheer for MORE!

Ohios Pride - by the Hour

E-mail Print PDF

Did you ever wonder how many blades of grass are on Jackson Field? How many of tehm survive the season? How many times does a UAkron Marching Band member pick up his/her feet? How many miles do those feet march in a season? How much money you are going to make this year? How much money are you going to receive as Ohio's Pride? How much you make per hour of practice, travel, and performance time? And at last a question that can be answered... We have scientifically calculated the amount of time, in rough terms, that a UAkron band member puts in during the season:

BAND CAMP 32 HRS.

11 WEEKS OF 3 PRACTICES/WEEK 66 HRS.

6 SATURDAY PRACTICES 15 HRS.

TRAVEL/PERFORMANCE 120 HRS.

TOTAL 231 HRS./

SEASON

At $100/Season

231 Hours/ $100 = $ 0.43 / Hour
