Akron Football Book "Our Boys in Blue & Gold"

E-mail Print PDF

For those Akron Zips fans out there, this is the first ever book on the Akron Zips football, including a section about Ohio's Pride. (pg. 64-66)  It covers our history, and includes some images from 1934, from the 1950's, and an image from 1984 of an unknown Baritone player.  The book is a great overview starting in 1891 all the way through the present including excerpts from press, student newspapers, etc.  I think this is a book for the ultimate Zips fan to own.  Read below for additional detials.  For those of you back for Alumni Band, these will also be for sale in the Student Center bookstore.  I will try and identify the Baritone player, once I get permission to share the photo.

Our Boys in Blue and Gold chronicles Zips football from the late 1800s until today. Stories from The Buchtelite have been carefully selected to provide a complete and unique picture of the university’s crucial games and motley characters. • An historical account of the team’s journey from its inception in 1891 through the 2008 season.
  • Special sections on the Zips and Zippy, the wagon wheel, the Acme–Zip game, the coaches, the marching band, the cheerleaders, and the playing fields and stadiums.
  • Over 50 carefully-selected news articles that provide a comprehensive portrait of Zips football.
  • Unique images from every decade dating back to 1891.
  • A foreword by Jim Tressel, who started his coaching career as a graduate assistantat The University of Akron.
  • Extensively-researched selections from The University of Akron Archives, The University of Akron Athletics Department,The Buchtelite, the Tel-Buch, and more.
  • Features about landmark games, historic contests, and traditions.
